How to Prep for Your Waxing Appointment
1. Let It Grow
Hair should be at least ¼ inch long (about the length of a grain of rice) for the wax to grip effectively. Avoid shaving for at least 2–3 weeks before your appointment.
2. Exfoliate Gently
Exfoliate the area 24 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and help prevent ingrown hairs. Use a gentle scrub or exfoliating glove.
3. Clean Skin Only
Come to your appointment with clean, dry skin—no lotions, oils, or deodorants. These can interfere with the wax’s ability to stick.
4. Time It Right
Avoid scheduling your waxing session right before or during your period if you’re more sensitive to pain at that time. Your skin can be more tender.
5. Take a Pain Reliever (Optional)
If you’re concerned about discomfort, taking an over-the-counter pain reliever 30 minutes before your session may help ease sensitivity.
6. Wear Loose Clothing
Choose soft, loose-fitting clothing to avoid irritation after your waxing session, especially for bikini or body waxing.
7. Communicate with Your Esthetician
Let your esthetician know if you’re using any skincare products like Retin-A or taking medications that may affect your skin’s sensitivity.
